Harry Kane scored four goals for Bayern Munich in their massive 9-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb, setting a new record as England’s top scorer in Champions League or European Cup history with 33 goals, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record of 30.
This game also marked Kane’s 50th, 51st, 52nd, and 53rd goals for Bayern Munich, achieved in just 50 matches.
Another standout was Michael Olise, who scored twice on his Champions League debut for Bayern.
Bayern Munich became the first team to score nine goals in a single Champions League game. Kane opened the scoring with a penalty, followed by a fantastic goal from Raphael Guerreiro and a header by Olise from Joshua Kimmich’s cross.
After Bayern’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was injured and replaced by Sven Ulrich, Dinamo Zagreb scored twice, but Bayern quickly regained control. Kane scored from a rebound, and Olise added another goal. Kane then scored two more penalties, making it a hat-trick of spot-kicks.
Leroy Sane added a powerful goal from 20 yards, and Leon Goretzka headed in Bayern’s ninth goal.
Several other Bayern goals by Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and Kane were disallowed for offside.
This match is now the joint second-highest scoring game in Champions League history, tied with Monaco’s 8-3 win over Deportivo La Coruna in 2003. The record remains Borussia Dortmund’s 8-4 win over Legia Warsaw in 2016.
Thomas Muller also made his 152nd Champions League appearance for Bayern, surpassing Barcelona legend Xavi for the most appearances for a single club in the tournament. Kane has scored nine goals in five games for Bayern this season, including a hat-trick in a 6-1 win at Holstein Kiel.
