England winger Bukayo Saka (23) has returned to Arsenal for further evaluation of a leg injury and will not participate in Sunday’s Nations League match against Finland, the England team announced on Saturday. Saka was forced to leave the field in the 51st minute during England’s 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley on Thursday, with interim manager Lee Carsley confirming that he sustained a leg injury.
In light of Saka’s absence, a 22-man squad will travel to Helsinki for the Nations League fixture, which will also see Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones withdraw for personal reasons, as noted in the team’s statement.
Currently, England is positioned second in the Group B2 standings, trailing Greece by three points after three matches.
Saka’s injury is a significant setback for Arsenal, especially as their captain Martin Ødegaard is also unavailable due to injury. Mikel Arteta’s side is set to face Bournemouth away in the Premier League next Saturday, making Saka’s absence even more critical as the team navigates this challenging period.
