Jurgen Klopp, the 57-year-old German coach, has been named the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, a company that owns several football clubs, including RB Leipzig. This will be Klopp’s first job since leaving Liverpool earlier this year. He will start on January 1, 2025, and will be responsible for overseeing Red Bull’s football activities worldwide. Red Bull also runs teams in Salzburg, New York, Brazil, and Japan, in addition to Leipzig.
At first, Red Bull did not respond to questions about Klopp’s new role. However, Sky Sports reported that Klopp’s contract includes an exit clause, allowing him to leave if he gets an offer to coach the German national team.
In a statement, Klopp said, “After nearly 25 years as a coach, I am excited to take on this new challenge. My passion for football and the people involved hasn’t changed, even though my role is different now.”
Klopp retired from club management in May 2024 after a successful nine-year run at Liverpool, where he previously won several titles. Before Liverpool, he had coached Borussia Dortmund and FSV Mainz 05. After leaving Liverpool, he announced he would be taking a break from managing clubs. In his new role, he won’t be involved in day-to-day operations but will focus on providing guidance and strategy.
Red Bull said Klopp will help shape the future of their football clubs by offering strategic advice to their sporting directors. He will also play a role in global scouting and help develop coaches within the Red Bull system.
Klopp added, “I see myself as a mentor for the coaches and managers at Red Bull clubs. I’m excited to be part of such an innovative and forward-thinking organisation.”
Oliver Mintzlaff, who has long been involved with RB Leipzig and is now responsible for Red Bull’s sports projects, is said to be the key figure behind bringing Klopp into the company.
