Las Palmas have announced Diego Martinez, former Espanyol coach, as their new manager. Martinez, 43, has signed a contract until June 2025, with the possibility of an extra year if the team avoids relegation. He replaces Luis Carrion, who was also from Spain.
Las Palmas are currently struggling in LaLiga, sitting at the bottom of the standings without a single win. Out of their nine games this season, they’ve drawn three and lost six.
In their statement on Tuesday, the club highlighted Martinez’s experience, noting that he has managed over 100 matches in LaLiga. He also brings European experience, having coached Granada and Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa League.
Martinez’s first challenge will be an away game against 18th-placed Valencia on October 21.
