A Liverpool fan was hit by a car and died in Italy while he was there to watch his team play in the Champions League. Philip Dooley, 51, from Liverpool, was hit by a vehicle in Bergamo early on Tuesday, according to Merseyside Police.
The police said they have informed Mr. Dooley’s family in Merseyside and are helping the Italian police. Two men who saw what happened are also helping the Italian police with their investigation.
The lifelong Liverpool fan had gone to Italy for Tuesday’s game against AC Milan, according to Liverpool. The club shared on X: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of our supporter Philip Dooley, after a road accident in Bergamo.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Philip’s family, friends, and fellow supporters during this very hard time.”
A club spokesperson also said: “Our staff in Milan are working with local police and the consulate, and continue to support other fans affected by this terrible incident. Rest in peace, Philip.”
