Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou (59) praised striker Dominic Solanke (27), saying he’s improving and reaching the level expected of him. Solanke scored one goal and assisted another in Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday.
Solanke, who joined from Bournemouth for up to £65 million ($87 million), had a slow start to the season due to an ankle injury that made him miss two games after his debut.
He scored in the 68th minute against Qarabag, making it his second goal in two games, after also scoring in a league win over Brentford. His goal helped Spurs secure the win, despite being down to 10 men.
Postecoglou said, “He’s improving. He missed pre-season and then was sidelined for two weeks after his first game, so he’s catching up on match fitness. It’s great he scored again, and his overall performance was strong. When we were down to 10 men, he did a good job holding up play and working hard.”
Postecoglou also praised 23-year-old Brennan Johnson, who has scored in three consecutive games since Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal.
“Brennan was really important, especially when we were down to 10 men early on. He’s been good at finding the right positions, and he and Dom are working well together. He took his goal well,” Postecoglou added.
