Main Rival

Tottenham has their biggest rivalry with North London’s other side, Arsenal, and when they meet they hold the classic North London Derby. The team also has a great rivalry with Chelsea and West Ham United.

Tottenham supporters have rivalries with various clubs, mainly within the London area. The fiercest of these is with North London rivals Arsenal. The rivalry began in 1913 when Arsenal moved from the Manor Ground, Plumstead, to Arsenal Stadium, Highbury, and this rivalry intensified in 1919 when Arsenal was unexpectedly promoted to the First Division, taking a place Tottenham believed should have been theirs.

Tottenham also shares notable rivalries with London clubs Chelsea and West Ham United. The rivalry with Chelsea is secondary in importance to that with Arsenal and began when Tottenham beat Chelsea in the 1967 FA Cup final, the first-ever final in London. West Ham fans view Tottenham as a bitter rival, although the animosity is not reciprocated to the same extent by Tottenham fans.
