Manchester City squad Confirmed shirt numbers for 2025/26

Manchester City, one of the top football teams in England, has shared its squad for the 2025/26 season. Fans are excited to see which players will wear which shirt numbers as the team works to become champions again in the Premier League and other tournaments. This will be the club’s 131st season overall and their 24th in a row playing in the top English league.

Along with the Premier League, Manchester City will also play in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and the UEFA Champions League. This is the 15th year in a row they’ve qualified for the Champions League.

This season is special because it’s the first one since 2014/15 without star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who left after his contract ended. It’s also the first time since 2020/21 that City begins the season without being the defending champions. Even with these changes, the team—led by manager Pep Guardiola—is still very strong, with a good mix of experienced players and exciting new talent.

What numbers can Premier League players wear?

As long as it’s unique within its squad, Premier League players can wear any number between one and 99, although tradition dictates that you’ll generally see top teams wear one up to around 30, with a few exceptions.

Man City youngster Cole Palmer holds the record for the highest number in Premier League history, with the number 80.

Also following tradition, the goalkeepers will generally occupy the numbers one and 13.

Premier League players can’t wear the number zero, and that’s just because it would be a bit silly.

Can Premier League players change team numbers?

Premier League players can only change their team number during pre-season or if one is sold or loaned to another club in the January transfer window.
