25th Gulf Cup opening time modified

The organizing committee of the 25th Gulf Cup soccer championship announced on Thursday a change in the schedule of the tournament’s opening ceremony, which will take place between January 6 and 19.

The organizing committee of the Arab Gulf Cup championship made a change in the opening hours of the tournament so that it is at 5:45 p.m., the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) reported on Twitter.

The opening match between Iraq and Oman will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the next match between Saudi Arabia and Yemen will be at 9:45 p.m., on Friday, January 6, 2023, the AGCFF statement added.

Before the amendment, the opening match between Iraq and Oman was scheduled for 6:45 p.m. local time at the Basra International Stadium, and the match between Saudi Arabia and Yemen was scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

The Iraqi team won the championship title in 1979 and 1984 and is looking to win the title for the third time.

For years, Iraq has been seeking to host a tournament that brings together teams from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman, Bahrain and Yemen.

The 25th version of the Arabian Gulf Cup is scheduled to be held in Basra at the Al-Menaa Olympic Stadium and the Basra International Stadium.

The tournament will be held with the participation of eight teams divided into two groups. The first group includes Iraq, Oman, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia, while the second group includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
