Club Career

Everton Soares is a native of Maracanau, Ceara, and joined Gremio’s youth team in 2012, having come from Fortaleza. At first, he was on loan, but he got a permanent contract in the month of October 2013, while being linked with Manchester City in the process. 

He was promoted to the main squad by Enderson Moreira prior to the 2014 campaign, Everton made his first-team debut on the 19th of January of the same year. He came on as a substitute in the second half for Yuri Mamute who scored a goal in the one-goal Campeonato Gaucho away loss against Sao Jose-PA.

The first goal was scored the following day when he scored his first score in a 1-1 win at home against Lajeadense.

Everton Soares began his Serie A debut on 20 April 2014, taking over Para in an away defeat of 1-0 in a 1-0 loss against Athletico Paranaense. The team was not often used during the tournament however, he was able to play more often in the 2015 season and scored his debut goal for the highest league on the 6th of September, in a 1-0 home win over Goias. 

Everton was in his 100th game for Gremio on the 9th of March in 2017 after he was substituted as a substitute for Pedro Rocha in a 2-0 Copa Libertadores away victory against Zamora FC.

International career

On the 17th of August, Everton was called up by coach Tite to play friendly matches with the United States, and El Salvador. This meant that Everton was included on the initial list of Brazil following his participation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In May of 2019, the team was selected in Brazil’s 23-man roster for the 2019 Copa America on home soil. 

Everton Soares scored the first international goal in Brazil’s first game of the tournament scoring the goal that sealed a 3-0 win over Bolivia on the 15th of June. The next day, Everton scored his second international goal, this time against Peru in Brazil’s final match of the group stage by launching an effort at the far posts from outside. the game ended with a 5-0 victory for Brazil and allowed the hosts to make it into the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In the 2019 Copa America Final on 7 July at the Maracana Stadium, Everton scored the first goal in the eventual win 3-1 against Peru and was awarded Man of the Match.

Everton Soares also ended the tournament as the top scorer, scoring three goals, with the Peruvian Paolo Guerrero, but won the Golden Boot Award due to playing less time than the Peruvian in the entire competition. He was in June of 2021 when he made it in Brazil’s team for 2020’s Copa America on home soil.
