Bailey Peacock-Farrell Football Career

Here, we take a closer look at his Football career so far.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell Club Career

Leeds United

Peacock-Farrell was born in County Durham, in the town of Darlington. In 2006, he joined Middlesbrough’s youth program. In 2013, the club let him go because they didn’t want to give him a scholarship. Soon after, he joined Leeds United.

In June 2015, he signed his first professional contract with the club. After Marco Silvestri was sent off in a game against Rotherham United on the road on April 2, 2016, Peacock-Farrell made his debut with the first team in a Championship game against Queens Park Rangers at home on April 5.

The game ended 1–1 after he gave up a penalty kick in the 87th minute. On June 9, Peacock-Farrell signed a new two-year deal with Leeds. After surgery to fix a broken hand, he was hurt and couldn’t play in October.

Peacock-Farrell played his second game for Leeds on March 7, 2018, against league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers. First-choice goalkeeper Wiedwald had been dropped because he wasn’t doing well, so Peacock-Farrell got the chance to play.

This was almost two years after his first game. Leeds lost 3–0, but Peacock-Farrell was named man of the match for how well he played. He kept his spot on the team for the next games, and for the rest of the 2017–18 season, he was Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper.

He had several man-of-the-match performances, including one in a 1–0 loss to Aston Villa. After that game, Dan Long of Sky Sports wrote that Peacock-Farrell “looks incredibly confident between the sticks, which is even more surprising given how young he is.”

Peacock-Farrell won the Young Player of the Year award at Leeds’s annual awards ceremony in May. At the end of the 2017–18 Championship season, he played 11 times for Leeds, who finished 13th.

2018–19

Peacock-Farrell started the 2018–19 season in goal under new head coach Marcelo Bielsa. He beat out new signing Jamal Blackman, who was also in the running. His backup, Blackman, got hurt in November and had to go back to his parent club, Chelsea.

This left Peacock-Farrell as the only senior goalkeeper for Leeds. After Bielsa said in public that he would have dropped Peacock-Farrell the next game if Blackman hadn’t been hurt, Peacock-Farrell saved a penalty in the 90th minute to help Leeds beat Reading 1-0 on November 27. This was the game-winning play that helped Leeds win the game.

On January 17, 2019, Leeds brought in Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla to compete with Peacock-Farrell for a starting spot. He didn’t start against Rotherham United on January 26 because Casilla had become the club’s best goalkeeper.

Bielsa said that he thought taking Peacock-Farrell out of the first team would be good for his growth. But he came back for one game later in the season to replace Casilla, who was suspended, in a 3–2 home win over Millwall on March 30.

Leeds made it to the playoffs by coming in third place in the Championship in 2018–19. Peacock-Farrell did not play in either leg of the semi-final, which Derby County won 4–3 on aggregate. In all games during the 2018–19 season, Peacock-Farrell played 29 times.

Burnley

Peacock-Farrell signed a four-year deal with Premier League club Burnley on August 2, 2019, with an option for a fifth year. The fee was not made public, but BBC Sport said it was £2.5 million.

After Tom Heaton left, he was hired to give Joe Hart and Nick Pope something to worry about. On November 28, 2020, Peacock-Farrell played his first league game for Burnley, which lost 5–0 to Manchester City on the road.

Peacock-Farrell went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, July 27, 2021. On August 1, 2021, he made his debut at home against Huddersfield Town in the first round of the 2021–22 EFL Cup. The game ended 0-0 after extra time, but the team lost in a penalty shoot-out.

He would be the first goalkeeper in Sheffield Wednesday history to not let in a goal in the first five games of the season. He did this by keeping clean sheets against Huddersfield Town, Charlton Athletic, Doncaster Rovers, Fleetwood Town, and Rotherham United.

In the last game, he made a spectacular penalty save. Fans noticed how well he was playing, and the club named him August’s Player of the Month. He was also nominated by the EFL for August’s Player of the Month.

He would win Wednesday’s Player of the Month award again for December, when he kept a clean sheet against Portsmouth and saved his fourth penalty for club and country this season against Crewe Alexandra.
