Early Life
Scott was born in Tyne and Wear and grew up in Sunderland. She went to Monkwearmouth Comprehensive School. Scott was a long-distance runner who played football for the Boldon CA girls’ team. She ran for Sunderland Harriers and won the North of England Under-13 cross-country title and the Junior Great North Run. At age 13, she had to choose between playing football and running. She decided to play football. Demi Stokes and Steph Houghton, who would later play for England, played for Boldon. In 2022, as part of the “Where Greatness Is Made” program, plaques were put up at the club to honor Stokes and Scott.
Scott left school in 2003 and went to Gateshead College for a BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. She stayed at the college to study for a foundation degree in sports and exercise development at the University of Sunderland. She also played college football with Carly Telford, who plays for Sunderland and the United States. Scott and Telford both went to Loughborough University to study sports after Scott got her diploma.

England
Scott played for the England Under-19s team when she was younger. She scored three goals in three games and helped England win the first round of qualifying for the UEFA Under-19s event in 2006. In May 2006, she was called up to the England senior team for the first time. Before that, she had been captain of the Under-19s team for 18 months. She played her first game for the England senior team against the Netherlands in August 2006. She replaced Kelly Smith late in the game, and England won 4–0. She was picked to play for England at the 2007 World Cup and came on as a replacement in the first game against Japan. She started the rest of England’s games in the event.
