Kenilworth Road is an association football stadium in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. It has been the home of Luton Town Football Club since 1905. The stadium has also hosted international women’s and youth games, including the second leg of the 1984 European Women’s Football Competition final.

The 10,356-seat stadium is situated in the Bury Park district, one mile (1.6 km) west of central Luton. It is named after the road that runs along one of its ends, although its official address is 1 Maple Road. The Southern League played on Kenilworth Road until 1920. After that, the Football League played there until 2009, when Luton was sent down to the Conference Premier. It has hosted Football League matches once again since 2014.

Floodlights were installed in 1953, and the pitch was fully settled by 1991. The record attendance of 30,069 was set in 1959, in a replay of the FA Cup sixth round against Blackpool.

The artificial playing surface that was there from 1985 to 1991, the odd entrance to Oak Road End, and the five-season ban on away fans that Luton Town put in place after a riot by away fans in 1985 are all things that people know about the ground.

Kenilworth Road Stadium History

In 1905, Luton Town moved to Kenilworth Road. They had lived on Dunstable Road before, but their landlord sold the land for housing without telling them. The club’s directors quickly acquired a new site, and the club’s first game at the new ground came on September 4, 1905, in a 0–0 draw against Plymouth Argyle.

Watford player C. Barnes scored the first goal at the stadium, in a reserve match. Originally known as Ivy Road, the new ground brought success: in their final season at Dunstable Road, Luton had finished second from bottom, but in their first at Kenilworth Road, Luton finished fourth in the Southern League.
