Hanson, Massachusetts, native Mewis played soccer at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. She finished high school with 74 goals and 34 assists. She was a three-time NSCAA All-American, All-New England, All-Massachusetts, and Eastern Massachusetts Girls Soccer Association Div. 1 First-Team All-Star.

In 2013, Canberra United FC

Mewis joined Canberra United FC of the Australian W-League for the last two weeks of the 2012–13 season. She played her first game for the team on January 8, when they beat the Western Sydney Wanderers FC 5–0. In the 89th minute of that game, she scored the team’s fifth goal. On January 12, the team lost 5–1 to the eventual regular season champions, Brisbane Roar FC. Mewis scored Canberra’s only goal of the game in the 45th minute.
