Melchie Dumornay Club Career
Early career
Dumornay was born in Mirebalais, and he grew up in the AS Tigresses youth system. Amandine Miquel, the manager of Reims, saw her play at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France in 2018. After that, the club kept scouting her.
Around the same time, another French club, Lyon, asked her to try out for them. But neither of the two clubs could sign the player because she was too young at the time and the Haitian crisis was still going on.
Reims
After getting attention from a number of big clubs around the world, Dumornay signed her first professional contract with French club Reims on September 9, 2021, making the move permanent. In the process, she met up with Kethna Louis, another Haitian football player.
On October 2, she made her professional debut for Reims when she came on as a substitute at halftime of a Division 1 Féminine game against Issy. On the same day, she gave Kessya Bussy two assists, which helped her team win 3–1. A week later, on October 9, she started for the first time against Bordeaux. In a 5–2 win, she scored twice and set up another goal.
In December 2022, Dumornay was named the Division 1 Féminine Player of the Month for the following season.
On January 16, 2023, it was announced that Dumornay would join the Division 1 Féminine champions Lyon for good starting July 1, 2023. She signed a contract with the club until June 20, 2026.
International career
Youth national teams
Dumornay spoke for Haiti at a number of international youth events.
She played in the CONCACAF Girls’ U-15 Championship in 2016, and then she played in three other tournaments in 2018. First, she played in the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship, where Haiti finished third and became the first Caribbean national team to qualify for a FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Second, she was asked to play for Haiti in the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship, where she helped the team finish fourth and won the Golden Ball. Lastly, she was part of the Haitian team that went to the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in August of the same year.
In 2020, she took part in the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship again. At the end of the tournament, she scored 14 goals and won the Golden Boot award.
The senior national team of Haiti
On January 29, 2020, Dumornay played her first game with the Haitian senior national team. She started and played all 90 minutes of a 4–0 loss to the United States in an Olympic qualifier.
In July 2022, she was part of the Haitian team that went to Mexico for the CONCACAF W Championship. At the end of the tournament, she was named both the Best Young Player and one of the Best XI, helping Haiti get into the inter-confederation playoffs for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Dumornay scored twice in the inter-confederation play-off final against Chile on February 21, 2023. This helped her country win 2–1 and qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time.
