Who are the 4 African coaches leading their team to the World Cup?

Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia will represent the continent at the next Fifa World Cup 2022. Did you know that 4 out of 5 teams have home coaches?

Cameroon

Former star Regubert Sang was selected to head Cameroon’s national football team last month. He is one of only three African players to have played in four FIFA World Cups (1994, 1998, 2002, and 2010) with teammates Samuel Eto’o and Jack Sungo.

The 45-year-old former defender has won two consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (2000 and 2002) as Cameron’s captain.

Ghana

Otto Edu is a football star in Ghana and Germany. Bramfelder SV, Hannover 96, Dortmund, and Mainz 05 are just some of the Bundesliga clubs with which Ghana-German shines. He ended his playing career in 2008 to pursue a career in scouting and coaching.

The 46-year-old has become the first Ghanaian footballer to qualify for the World Cup as a player and coach.

Senegal

Aliou Cissé no longer needs any introduction. The Senegalese coach won the last AFCON in Cameroon in February. First continental title for a West African country. Cissé captained the team and missed a decisive penalty in the shootout when Senegal lost to Cameroon in the 2002 AFCON final.

During his playing years, the midfielder played for French clubs such as PSG and Lille. He wore the jerseys of two Premier League clubs, Portsmouth and Birmingham.

Tunisia

Coach Jalil Qadri is perhaps the least famous of the three other African coaches leading to the FIFA 2022 World Cup. However, the 50-year-old also has a proven track record. His international managerial career brought him to Saudi Arabia when he was head of the Ansar al-Madinah club. He also worked with Al-Ahly Tripoli in Lebanon and Libya. He made his mark on the national scene, where he coached Tunisian clubs such as First Division clubs ES Zarzis and JS Kairouan.

Qadri has now been assigned to lead the Carthage Eagles in the World Cup in Qatar.
