Chelsea’s youth history and

Russo went to St. Simon Stock School and played football for Kent Schools FA while he was there. She started her career at Charlton Athletic’s Centre of Excellence, where she played from 2007 to 2010. After that, she joined Chelsea’s development group and became team captain. On July 2, 2016, in the first round of the FA WSL Continental Cup, she played her first and only game for Chelsea.

2017: Brighton and Hove Albion

Russo joined the newly promoted WSL 2 team Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2017, just before the 2017 FA WSL Spring Series. She played her first game for Brighton on February 5, 2017. It was a win over AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup. Russo scored Brighton’s first-ever WSL goal in the team’s first Spring Series game, a 1–1 tie with London Bees on February 11.

In the autumn of 2017, Russo went to the United States to play college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). As a first-year player, she played 19 games and started 18. She led the team in scoring with nine goals and two assists, and she was named co-ACC Freshman of the Year and to the ACC All-Freshman Team. United Soccer Coaches also named her to the All-East Region first team.

The team won the 2017 ACC Women’s Soccer Tournament by beating Duke 1-0 in the final. In the regular season, Duke was the best team, so the team came second to Duke in the tournament. Russo was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), and she closed the year with a string of personal awards, including the university’s own for best female newcomer in an athletics program, even though she missed games to join the England youth teams.

2018

Even though she didn’t play in the postseason because she broke her leg, Russo was named to the first team of All-America by United Soccer Coaches. She was the first Tar Heel to make the first team since Crystal Dunn in 2013. She was also named ACC Offensive Player of the Year as North Carolina won its first regular season title since 2008.

Russo became more well-known and was ranked nationally. She was also a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy, which is given to the best college soccer player in the country.
