Bradley Dack Football Career
Here, we take a closer look at his Football career so far.
Bradley Dack Club Career
Early career
His debut with an academy team came with Charlton Athletic, where he remained for three years until he was discharged at the age of 14. After he was granted his freedom, he resumed his youth football career with Corinthian, competing in the Kent Youth League.
Gillingham
After that, Dack became a member of Gillingham in 2008 and began a scholarship programme with the club that lasted for three years in 2010. He signed his first professional deal in May 2012.
It was because of his productive preseason play in 2012, including a four-goal haul against Royal Engineers, that Gillingham manager Martin Allen took notice of him. This led to him making his professional debut on August 14, 2012, in a Football League Cup game against Bristol City, which Gillingham won by a score of 2–1.
On his first game in the league, which took place on the 18th of August 2012 against Bradford City, the upright came dangerously close to preventing him from scoring a late goal. On September 5, 2012, he scored his first goal for the senior team in an away match against Crawley Town in the Football League Trophy. The next day, he signed a new three-year contract with the club.
After coming on as a replacement and first winning a penalty, Dack was shown a red card for the first time in his professional career for violent behaviour against Southend United on September 18, 2012. This was Dack’s first red card ever.
Blackburn Rovers
Dack signed a contract to play for Blackburn Rovers on June 27, 2017, for a cost of 750,000 pounds plus add-ons. The deal was for three years. On August 5, he participated in the club’s 2–1 loss against Southend United at Roots Hall, which was his first competitive game for the organisation.
On September 23, Dack scored his first goal for Blackburn. It was an equaliser against Shrewsbury Town in the 85th minute, and it helped Blackburn secure a 1–1 draw away from their home stadium. Dack finished as the top scorer for Blackburn in his first season with the club, helping Blackburn earn promotion to the Championship in his first year with the club.
In 42 league games, Dack scored 18 goals, making him the club’s leading scorer. As a result of his accomplishments, he was awarded the title of Player of the Year as well as Goal of the Season by his club. In addition, he was recognised as the EFL League One Player of the Season.
As a result of Blackburn’s successful bid to return to the Championship, Dack found himself participating in matches at a level of English football competition that was previously uncharted in his professional career.
Dack continued to demonstrate his talent despite the increased difficulty of the competition. He finished as the club’s top scorer for the second season in a row, having scored 18 goals in all competitions, with 15 of those goals coming in the Championship.
Dack went down clutching his right knee after a relatively harmless challenge from Sam Morsy on the 23rd of December, 2019, during Blackburn’s Championship match at home versus Wigan Athletic. As a result, Dack was taken off the field in the 68th minute and replaced by another player.
After a few days, the club announced that Dack had been diagnosed with anterior cruciate ligament damage after undergoing imaging tests. The manager, Tony Mowbray, responded to the news by saying that “he will miss the rest of the season as well as maybe a month or two of next season.”
Dack joined Billy Barr and the rest of the Blackburn Rovers U23s squad on November 3, 2020, marking the first time in nearly a year that he has participated in training with his team. Three weeks later, on November 17, Dack made his first appearance on the field since his injury. He participated in a friendly match between Blackburn and Sheffield United, which ended in a 2–2 tie.
The news that Dack had signed a new contract with Blackburn was released on the 23rd of December. The new deal is for two and a half years and will continue until the summer of 2023. The club has the option to extend the contract for an extra year.
Dack made his formal return for Blackburn days later, on the 26th of December, coming on as a replacement for Lewis Holtby in the 62nd minute of their 1–1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday. The news of his return came days after it was announced.
