Caroline Seger Club Career
Linköpings
Seger was a hard-working center midfielder who played for and was captain of Linkopings FC from 2005 to 2009. In four of Seger’s five seasons with the team, Linkopings ended in the top four of the Damallsvenskan. 2008 and 2009 were their best years when they came in second and first. Three times, in 2006, 2008, and 2009, the team also won the Svenska Cupen.
United States
In September 2009, Philadelphia Independence, a new Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) team, said they planned to pick Seger with the first pick in the 2009 international draught. In December 2009, she signed a deal with Philadelphia for three years. Her first season with the Independence started in April 2010, and the WPS Championship game was a 4–0 loss to FC Gold Pride. Seger played 18 games and scored one goal, and had five helpers. After the season, she had surgery to fix a hurt heel.
Seger played for the Flash in only 12 games because the FIFA Women’s World Cup was going on simultaneously. She scored five goals and had one helper. Coach Aaran Lines was very happy with what Seger did, but her contract had a condition that let her leave for a team outside of the U.S. after one year.
Tyreso FF
Seger said in August 2011 that she would join LdB FC Malmo on a short-term deal for the rest of the 2011 Damallsvenskan season, but she wasn’t sure where she would go after that. Later that same month, it was announced that Seger would join Tyreso FF on a two-year deal starting with the 2012 Damallsvenskan season. Malmö won the Damallsvenskan in 2011 because she scored three goals in seven league games.
Paris Saint-Germain
Seger moved to Paris Saint-Germain and signed a two-year deal in June 2014. She left when Tyreso quit the league and let all its players go.
Olympique Lyon
On July 2, 2016, Olympique Lyon said that Seger had joined the team. Seger helped Lyon win the Division 1 Women’s, the Coupe de France Women’s, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the 2016–17 season.
FC Rosengård
Seger returned to Sweden in 2017 and joined FC Rosengrd in the Damallsvenskan league. She helped Rosengrd win the Svenska Cupen Damer and finish second in the league.

She wanted to score the game-winning goal at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2005 in North West England. Seger was on the team, but she didn’t score as foes Norway beat Sweden in extra time in the semi-final.
Seger kept getting picked under the new coach Thomas Dennerby, and she was on the Sweden team, shocked to be out of the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the first round. After that loss, some of the team’s more experienced players left, and Seger was given a big part. She got hurt in her thigh in July 2008 but still made the team for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. In China, she was a part of the Swedish team that lost to Germany 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
In October 2012, the national team’s new coach, Pia Sundhage, announced that Lotta Schelin and Seger would be captains. Sundhage put Seger on the team for the 2013 UEFA Women’s Euro held in Sweden. Seger was upset when Sweden lost to Germany 1-0 in the semi-final.
Seger played in all 6 games for Sweden at the 2016 Summer Olympics. After a 2–1 loss to Germany, Sweden won the Silver Medal.
Lotta Schelin quit international football, so Seger took over as National team captain.
