The team is nicknamed Los Cafeteros due to the coffee production in their country. America’s Cup 2021
In the 2021 Copa América, Colombia started with a 1-0 win against Ecuador. Days later, they faced Venezuela, where the match ended in a 0-0 draw. Then, they would face Peru, where the first half ended with a victory for Peru with a goal in the 17th minute.
In the second half, Colombia was able to tie with a penalty goal for action by Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese against Miguel Borja. However, in the 64th minute, an error by Yerry Mina made him score an own goal after a corner kick from Peru, goalkeeper David Ospina deflected the ball with a claw but the referee awarded the goal, ending the match. match with a score of 1–2
World Cup qualifiers 2022
Colombia started the 2022 World Cup qualifiers hoping to reach third place in a row for the second time, and Colombia seemed to be on the right track when they beat their neighbor Venezuela and defeated Chile.
