2008–2011: Willem II

At age 17, Van de Donk played his first professional football game for the Dutch club Willem II in the Eredivisie. Over the next four seasons, she played for the Tricolores and scored five goals in 47 league games. In 2008, which was her first season, she played in 18 of the 24 games and scored one goal.

In her second season, she hurt her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which kept her off the field for several months. During the 2009–10 season, she played seven times for Willem II. The team’s 8–10–2 record was good enough for third place. During the 2010–11 season, she played as a starting midfielder in 21 games and scored four goals.

2011–12: VVV-Venlo

Before the 2011–12 season, Van de Donk signed with VVV-Venlo. She started 18 games during the regular season and scored 8 goals for the club. Van de Donk scored twice in a game against Heerenveen, helping her team win 2–1.

In the 83rd minute of a game against PEC Zwolle, she scored the game-winning goal to help VVV win 5–4. Van de Donk scored a second brace in a game against Heerenveen, which helped VVV win 3–1. 2012–2015: PSV/FC Eindhoven

In 2014, Van de Donk played for Eindhoven and made it to the final of the KNVB Cup. There, she won a medal for coming in second place. In 53 games for the club, she scored 30 goals, which is a lot.

2015: Goteborg

In June 2015, Van de Donk was transferred to the Swedish Damallsvenskan club Kopparbergs/Goteborg FC. Van de Donk played for the team 13 times and scored 4 goals. 2015–2021: Arsenal

On November 20, 2015, Van de Donk signed with FA Women’s Super League club Arsenal in England (FA WSL). The move paid off, and she played in the FA Cup final on May 14, 2016, as a result. Arsenal won the FA Cup after beating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. This was their 14th FA Cup title.

Van de Donk was a big reason why Arsenal won the WSL title in 2018–19. In all games, she scored 23 goals and had 23 assists. Sports Illustrated said that she was “crucial” to Arsenal’s attempts to win the Women’s Super League for the first time since 2012. Her double nutmeg went viral on Twitter on November 17. Arsenal came in third place with a record of 5–0–3.

She was named WSL Player of the Week in October 2020 because of how well she played in a 5–0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. Van de Donk scored the second goal for Arsenal and touched the ball more than 60 times.

2021–present: Olympique Lyonnais

Olympique Lyonnais said in June 2021 that they had signed Van de Donk to a two-year deal. She played her first game in the league for Lyon on September 5, 2021, against Saint-Étienne.
