Dayotchanculle Upamecano was born on October 27, 1998 in Évreux. He comes from a family from Guinea-Bissau, of which he also has a nationality. His first name was given to him by his parents in homage to a great-grandfather, king of a village in Guinea-Bissau, the one from which his family originated. Upamecano was born on 27 October 1998 in Évreux, Normandy to a family from Guinea-Bissau; he was raised in La Madeleine, a neighborhood with many African immigrants. He was named after his great-grandfather, who was king of the village on the island of Jeta in Guinea-Bissau, which his parents are from. Club Career
A revelation at Red Bull Salzburg (2015-2017)
In July 2015, he signed with Red Bull Salzburg for 2.2 million euros before being loaned to FC Liefering, a club belonging to the same owner, the Austrian group Red Bull and which plays in Austrian D2. He played his first professional matches there during the 2015-2016 season.
He returned to Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian first division for the 2016-2017 season where he won quickly.
Confirmation at RB Leipzig (2017-2021)
In January 2017, he left Salzburg to join German club RB Leipzig (for 10 million euros) which is also owned by Red Bull. He played his first match for Leipzig on February 4, 2017, in a Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund. He is established during this meeting lost by his own on the score of a goal to zero.
