Club Career
AaB
Born in Østervrå, Vendsyssel, Mæhle started playing football for local club Østervrå IF and moved to the AaB youth academy when he was 12 years old. At the age of 19, Mæhle was promoted to the first team squad on 10 June 2016, also signing a full-time senior contract with AaB. He made his debut for AaB on 7 August 2016. He started on the bench but replaced Thomas Enevoldsen in the 89th minute in a 2-1 win against FC Nordsjælland in the Danish Superliga.
On November 11, 2016, Mæhle was given a new contract until 2020. In April 2017, AaB confirmed that they were in negotiations with a foreign club about Mæhle.
Genk
On 9 May 2017, AaB confirmed that they had sold Mæhle to the Belgian club Racing Genk for an undisclosed fee, effective 1 July 2017. He was signed to succeed right-back Timothy Castagne, who had moved to Atalanta. Mæhle made his debut for Genk on 29 July 2017 in the first league game of the season against Waasland-Beveren as a substitute for Amine Khammas.
In his first season with the club, he was not a regular starter, competing with Clinton Mata for his job. In his second season, following Mata’s departure to Club Brugge, he earned a permanent starting job. That season, Mæhle became a key player in Genk’s starting eleven. At the end of the season, Genk won the Belgian championship.

Atalanta
Genk announced on 22 December 2020 that Mæhle had signed for Atalanta on a five-year contract for a fee of €10 million. His transfer became official on January 4, 2021.
He made his Serie A debut for Atalanta on January 6 in the club’s 3-0 loss to Parma. On 28 February, Mæhle provided an assist in Atalanta’s 2–0 victory over Sampdoria. Mæhle scored his first goal for Atalanta in a 6–2 Serie A win over Udinese on 9 January 2022.
International career
Mæhle made his Denmark national team debut on 5 September 2020 in a Nations League match against Belgium; he came on for Martin Braithwaite in the 72nd minute of a 2–0 home loss. He scored his first international goal in a friendly against the Faroe Islands on October 7, 2020.
In June 2021, he was included in the national team’s bid for UEFA Euro 2020, where the team reached the semi-finals.

- 1) A HOMETOWN HERO Maehle hails from the small town of Ostervra, which is located in Vendsyssel, the northernmost district of mainland Denmark. More of a fishing village than anything else, Ostervra has a current population of around 1,300. Maehle is a local hero, due to his progression to stardom for his country and coming from such a small town.
- 2) FOOTBALL IN HIS VIENS SINCE HE WAS SMALL As a boy from a town with less than 2,000 inhabitants, Maehle needed to choose what he liked at a very young age. Education and soccer were his options and although he continued with his education, soccer was his main goal in life. He also helped to have parents and a local club supporting his dream which has now come true as Maehle hoped.
- 3) NOT A PORTFOLIO FROM THE BEGINNING In his childhood, Maehle started as a goalkeeper and you can see that in the images in which he puts on the goalkeeper gloves. But this only lasted a couple of years, after which Maehle made his rise up the pitch, starting as a winger before moving back into midfield, where he stayed for a couple more years.
