Kylian Mbappe Speaks Out Regarding Transfer Rumors to Real Madrid

During a press conference on Thursday, Kylian Mbappe asserted that remaining at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was his exclusive preference, as he informed the club about his decision not to prolong his contract beyond 2024. Addressing the media ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier against Gibraltar in Portugal, the French superstar stated, “I’ve already made it clear that my objective is to continue at the club, to stay at PSG; it’s my only choice at the moment.”

Earlier this week, Mbappe sent a letter to PSG, formally declining the option to extend his stay with the French champions until 2025. Reflecting on this action, Mbappe commented, “I didn’t anticipate that a letter could harm or offend anyone.”

Mbappe disclosed to AFP that he had never discussed extending his contract beyond the upcoming year with PSG. Consequently, speculations emerged immediately, suggesting that the highly sought-after 24-year-old forward might depart Parc des Princes this summer, much like Lionel Messi.

Kylian Mbappe expressed his lack of surprise regarding suggestions that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) might consider selling him now to avoid losing him for free at the end of the upcoming season. “No, there’s not much that shocks me,” he calmly remarked. The France captain also refuted allegations of interfering with the national team’s preparations by sending the letter just four days before the Gibraltar match.

“I accept everything; people are free to talk, criticize, and I understand,” Mbappe stated. “People don’t have all the details. I know my reasons and intentions behind my actions and words. There’s no issue with that.”

Highlighting his commitment as captain, Mbappe emphasized that he wouldn’t relinquish responsibility despite any distractions. “A few rumors won’t make me run away from this responsibility. It’s not my nature to escape,” he added.

Mbappe also touched on President Emmanuel Macron’s comments, expressing his desire to “try to push” the player to remain in France. Mbappe responded, “He wants me to stay in Paris, and my goal is to stay, so we share the same perspective.”

Following their match against Gibraltar in Faro, France, the runners-up of the World Cup will host Greece on Monday in Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifiers. With the Netherlands focusing on the Nations League finals, France has a strong chance to secure qualification by securing consecutive victories.

Mbappe assumed the role of France’s new captain before their Euro qualifying campaign, which began in March with triumphs over the Netherlands and Ireland.
