Early life
Linda Motlhalo was born on January 7, 1998, in Badirile, Brandvlei, Randfontein, Gauteng. Her family has a history of playing football, and her father, Johannes Motlhalo, tried to play professionally. His brother, Joseph Motlhalo, played goalkeeper for Kaizer Chiefs F.C. from 1970 to 1985, even though he never did.

Dash to Houston
Motlhalo joined the National Women’s Soccer League team Houston Dash on February 1, 2018. Vera Pauw, who was the head coach of the South African national team from 2014 to 2016, hired her for the Dash. Motlhalo played for the Dash in 21 NWSL games and scored one goal.
The Houston Dash let Motlhalo go on February 6, 2019.
Beijing BG Phoenix F.C.
On February 22, 2019, it was announced that Motlhalo would be playing for Beijing BG Phoenix F.C. in the Chinese Women’s Super League. She will be joining her former Houston Dash teammate Thembi Kgatlana in China.

International career
Motlhalo played as a forward for the South Africa women’s national under-20 football team while she was at the High-Performance Centre. This included games in the African U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament for 2015.
Motlhalo joined the senior team for the first time in October 2015, after Thembi Kgatlana got hurt and had to be taken off the team.

Motlhalo started all five games for South Africa at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana. South Africa made it to the final but lost to Nigeria on penalties. She scored one goal at the tournament and was named Player of the Match when her team played Mali in the semifinals.
Motlhalo played in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup for South Africa, but she was hurt before the tournament started. She started the team’s first game against Spain, but after that, she could only come on as a late substitute against China.
In September 2021, Motlhalo scored a goal that helped South Africa beat Nigeria 4–2 and win the first Aisha Buhari Cup in Lagos.
