Manchester United identify Alexander Isak as Cristiano Ronaldo replacement

Manchester United has reportedly identified Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak as an ideal replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo celebrated his 37th birthday on Saturday and is tied to the Red Devils until 2023, but there have been suggestions the attacker could leave earlier than planned due to Man United’s disappointing season.

Ralf Rangnick’s side has the option of activating a 12-month extension for Ronaldo, but United is understandably still beginning to plan for his life without the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United is already making plans for Ronaldo’s possible departure in the summer by planning a raid for Sociedad striker Isak.

The Sweden international fueled speculation surrounding a move to Arsenal on Deadline Day after being photographed in London but remained in La Liga after the window closed.

The report adds that the lack of Champions League football could hamper the Gunners’ chances of landing Isak, who is also rumored to be attracting the eyes of Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has only registered four goals in 18 La Liga appearances this season and he is reported to have a £75m release clause in his contract with Sociedad, which does not expire until 2026.
