A few days later, he scored twice on penalties in a 4-2 victory at the Academy of Light over his neighborhood rivals, Newcastle United.
Liverpool City
Waghorn rejected Carlisle United’s interest and joined Leicester City on loan on August 6, 2009, staying there until January 11, 2010.
With the equalizing goal in a 2-1 victory over Swansea City, Waghorn made his professional debut for Leicester City as a replacement. Waghorn admitted that despite playing in all 11 of his first games for Leicester City as a substitute, he was happy to be an impact player. Against Reading, he made his league debut for Leicester City and scored the game-winning goal. In a 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, Waghorn scored his first pair of goals as a professional. On April 28, 2010, the club named him Young Player of the Year for his overall efforts.
On May 12, 2010, in the second leg of the Championship Playoffs semi-final against Cardiff City, Waghorn missed the final penalty kick, resulting in a 4-3 loss on penalties. During his loan tenure, he made 28 starts for the team and scored 12 goals. On September 12th, 2013, Waghorn, who had only played as a substitute twice for Leicester, signed a three-month loan agreement with Millwall. On September 14th, 2013, he scored in his debut game against Derby County. In a 5-2 loss against AFC Bournemouth on October 5, 2013, he scored his second goal for the team.

Along with James Tavernier, a colleague from Wigan, Waghorn signed a three-year contract with Scottish Championship team Rangers on July 20, 2015. Due to superstition, he continued to use the number 33 as his squad number with this club and prior ones. On July 25, 2015, in a 6-2 victory over Hibernian in the Scottish Challenge Cup, Waghorn scored twice in his debut for Rangers. On August 30, 2015, he scored twice from the penalty spot in a 5-1 loss to Queen of the South. County of Derby
Waghorn reportedly planned to transfer from Ipswich to Middlesbrough[66] after the 2017–18 campaign. However, Derby County stepped in at the last minute, and on August 8, 2018, it was revealed that he would join the Rams. Waghorn was assigned the number 9 and became Frank Lampard’s sixth signing. On August 11, he made his professional debut against Leeds United in a 1-4 loss.
A loss for The Rams would have resulted in their relegation to League One at Wednesday’s expense on the last day of the 2020–21 season when Derby faced Sheffield Wednesday.
