About New Zealand Women’s National Football Team
The New Zealand Women’s Football Association was founded in 1975. By invitation, the team participated in the Women’s Asian Championship in 1975 and won the championship. Since then they have played in the Oceanic Championship.
When Australia left the OFC, New Zealand had no serious and competitive opponents in Oceania, facilitating New Zealand’s qualifications for the World Cup and the Olympic Tournament, having contested every edition of both tournaments since 2007.
New Zealand will co-host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup along with Australia after being awarded favorites over Colombia on June 25, 2020. The Football Ferns automatically qualified as co-hosts.
