Nuevo Mirandilla is a football stadium in Cádiz, Spain. The stadium is the home of Cádiz CF. The stadium originally opened as Estadio Ramón de Carranza on September 3, 1955. Since then, it has been completely rebuilt twice. With a capacity of 20,724 seats, it is the 24th-largest stadium in Spain and the 5th-largest in Andalusia.

Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium History

The stadium was inaugurated on September 3, 1955. A month earlier, on August 6, the national flag was raised in the stadium in the presence of José León de Carranza, who was the city mayor, Cazalla Morales, who was in charge of the work; Muoz Monasterio and Fernández Pujol, who were the architects in charge; and Juan Ramón Cilleruelo Montero and Rafael Garcia Serrano, who were the president and vice president of Cádiz CF.

With a total of 15,000 spectators, the oval-shaped stadium included a 400-meter running track between the pitch and the stands. The opening match was played against FC Barcelona, which ended in a 0-4 loss. with two goals from Villaverde, then Luis Suárez, and then a final goal from Kubala.

The first reconstruction of the stadium took place in 1984. In the course of 4 months, the main stand was demolished and rebuilt, and the other stands were redesigned, at the same time that the athletics track was removed and the playing field was brought closer to the stands. The rebuilt stadium included a roof over the main stand.

The capacity of the stadium after the first reconstruction was 23,000. On February 8, 2002, the mayor of the city, Teófila Martnez, presented the first real project of Nueva Carranza. One of its key points of it was the expansion of the commercial areas of the stadium, whose total area was estimated at 5,000 square meters.

You can also find parking lots around the stadium in Plaza del Sol, but it’s also a bit risky if you don’t have a parking reservation before your visit. You may have to wander the streets of the city to find a free place.

Nuevo Mirandilla is easily accessible by public transport.

By train

  • The stadium has a nearby train station (estación de Estadio) where all commuter trains on the Cádiz-Jerez line stop, and some regional trains on the Cádiz-Seville line also stop at the stadium station.

By bus

  • Three city bus routes link up with the stadium, route 1 in front of the stadium at Avenida León de Carranza, route 2 stops in the Barriada de Loreto neighborhood close to the stadium and route 5 stops at Avenida de la Sanidad Pública a short walk from the stadium.
