Yassine Bounou (born 5 April 1991), also known as Bono, is a Moroccan professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for La Liga club Sevilla and the Morocco national team.
He spent most of his career in Spain, making over 100 La Liga appearances for Girona and Sevilla, and 56 in Segunda División for Zaragoza and Girona. He won the UEFA Europa League for Sevilla in 2020.

Yassine Bounou Club Career
Wydad Casablanca
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Bounou moved to Morocco at a young age and made his senior debut for Wydad Casablanca in 2011, having been promoted to the first team a year earlier.
Atlético Madrid
On June 14, 2012, Bounou moved to La Liga club Atlético de Madrid, and was initially assigned to the reserves in the Second Division. He regularly appeared on the team’s bench as third goalkeeper, and on May 31, 2013, he signed a new four-year contract.
In the summer of 2014, after benefiting from the departures of Thibaut Courtois and Daniel Aranzubia, he was definitively promoted to the starting team. He made his first-team debut on 24 July 2014, in a 1–0 pre-season friendly win against CD Numancia.
Zaragoza
On September 1, 2014, Bounou was loaned to Real Zaragoza of the Second Division, on a one-season contract. Sidelined by Óscar Whalley for the first half of the campaign, he made his debut the following January 11 in a 5-3 loss to UD Las Palmas and finished the season with 16 appearances.
In the playoffs, after Whalley’s performance had led to a 0–3 home loss to Girona FC in the first leg, Bounou replaced him in the second for a 4–1 win and advanced by away goals; Zaragoza lost the final by the same government to UD Las Palmas. On July 23, 2015, he returned to the Aragonese team, again on loan for one year.
Girona
On July 12, 2016, Bounou signed a two-year indefinite contract with Girona. He played exactly half of the games in his first season -sharing with René Román- as they rose to second place. In January 2019, now the first choice at the top flight club, he extended his contract until June 2021.
Seville
On September 2, 2019, after suffering relegation with the Catalans, Bono joined Sevilla FC in the top flight, on loan for one year. Tomáš Vaclík’s second choice in the league season, he played regularly in the domestic cup and when the team won the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League, he won plaudits for his performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the quarter-finals when he saved a Raúl Jiménez penalty to earn a 1-0 victory, also in a 2-1 semi-final victory over Manchester United and finally his decisive save in Romelu Lukaku‘s heads-up, to win the final 3-2 against Inter de Milan.
On September 4, 2020, Bono signed a four-year indefinite contract with the Andalusians. The following March 21, in the last minute of a match against Real Valladolid, he scored his first goal as a professional goalkeeper to earn a 1-1 draw.
Yassine Bounou International career
Bounou was eligible to represent either Canada or Morocco but opted to represent the latter, appearing for the under-20 team at the 2012 Toulon Tournament, and playing one match during the competition.
He was also selected in the 18-man under-23 squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics but acted as a substitute for Mohamed Asif during the tournament, in which Morocco was eliminated in the group stage.
On August 14, 2013, Bounou was called up to the main team for a friendly match against Burkina Faso. He made his debut the following day, playing the entire second half of an eventual 1-2 loss in Tangier.
In May 2018, Bounou was included in Morocco’s 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia. At the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, he was the first choice for Hervé Renard’s side, keeping a clean sheet in 1-0 wins over Namibia and Ivory. He cost to qualify for the round of 16.
