Apostolos Giannou Club Career
Early career
Giannou played youth soccer for Oakleigh Cannons and South Melbourne. Following state representative honors at the under-14 and under-15 level, Ernie Merrick selected Giannou to the VIS. He featured in Melbourne Victory’s pre-season friendlies ahead of the 2006-07 A-League season with the intention of signing on as a trainee. However, Giannou got a two-week trial with the Academy and Reserve teams of PSV Eindhoven. Giannou assured that if he did not sign with the Dutch club, he could return to Melbourne Victory. Despite the failed trial, Giannou returned to Melbourne and signed a six-month contract with Oakleigh Cannons of the Victorian Premier League.

In 2007, Giannou was transferred to Apollon Kalamarias of the Greek first division. Giannou scored his first goal for Apollon Kalamarias at the end of 2008, an 81st-minute consolation goal in a 3-1 home loss against Kerkyra.
