Janine van Wyk Club Career

A few years later, Van Wyk moved from Thembisa to Moroka Swallows and then to Palace Super Falcons, where she was on a team that won three league titles in a row. Van Wyk said that her time with the Super Falcons was “memorable,” and she said that the team was “untouchable” when they won the league three times. Then, she started her own club, which was called JVW F.C. She used to be both a player and a coach for the club. Fans of American football call her “Booth.”

On December 21, 2016, she signed with the National Women’s Soccer League team Houston Dash. In 2017, she played for the Dash 17 times. For the 2018 NWSL season, Van Wyk went back to Houston and played in 20 games. On October 1, 2018, the Houston Dash released van Wyk and put her on re-entry waivers, but no other team claimed her rights.

In August 2019, she signed with Fortuna Hjorring, a club in Denmark. After hurting her knee during training and going back to South Africa, van Wyk announced on January 14, 2020, that she and Fortuna Hjorring had agreed to end her contract so that she could focus on getting better.

Van Wyk returned to Europe in July 2020 when she signed for Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) club Glasgow City. After playing in one UEFA Women’s Champions League game against VfL Wolfsburg, she couldn’t play in the SWPL for a few months because she hurt her knee and the league was shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Janine van Wyk International career

In 2005, Van Wyk played her first game for South Africa’s national team against Nigeria at the African Women’s Championship. When Banyana beat Nigeria for the first time since the women’s national team was formed in 1993, Van Wyk scored a beautiful free kick.

Van Wyk scored the game’s only goal, and Banyana beat Nigeria to get them out of the 2012 African Women’s Championship. She was on the South African team that competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, UK. Even though her team lost in the first round, she was proud to represent her country at the Olympics.

In August 2014, Van Wyk played her 100th game for South Africa against Namibia. South Africa won 2–0. At the time, her teammate Portia Modise won her 110th cap in the same game, making her the most-capped South African woman player.

When she played against Cameroon on March 28, 2016, for her 125th time, she became the player with the most caps for South Africa, male or female.

She got her 150th cap for South Africa on September 18, 2018.

Van Wyk was the first captain to lead her team to the Women’s World Cup. She was also the first captain in South Africa’s history to lead a South African team at the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

Van Wyk then led the banyana banyana to their first WAFCON victory in history. This was after they had lost their previous four finals. It should be noted that even though she didn’t play in the final against Morocco, she still got the captain’s benefits because she held the title. The on-field captain and second-in-command, Jane Refiloe, was the one who actually played.

JVW F.C.

In 2013, Van Wyk started a football team called JVW F.C. “with the goal of focusing on the development of female football players and giving them a place to play at a higher level. JVW FC started out in 2013 with only one team in the Sasol League.

Over the past few years, they have done a great job of developing young female athletes, and now they have five teams.” In 2016, Van Wyk was a player-coach for the JVW First team, which won the Gauteng Sasol League.

They also made it to the Sasol League National Championship final, where they lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies. A few years later, in 2019, JVW FC won the Gauteng Sasol League again and became the National Champions. They beat the team from Limpopo, Maindies Ladies, 2-0 in the final and earned a spot in the newly formed National Women’s League.
