Barcelona to leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of European squad?

Supposedly, Barcelona could decide to leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of their Europa League squad for the round of 16.

The 32-year-old’s arrival on a free transfer from Arsenal is expected to be officially announced today once formalities related to the termination of his contract with the Gunners are completed.

Aubameyang follows Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, and Adama Traore through the gates of the Camp Nou this month, but Xavi is now in a bind when it comes to the European squad as only three January signings can be included.

According to AS, Aubameyang is the most at risk of being left out, with Torres and Alves in the squad, leaving Traore and the former Arsenal player fighting for the last place.

The report adds that Xavi is likely to want to maximize Traore’s playing time before he returns to Wolverhampton Wanderers after his loan spell, especially with Ez Abde and Ferran Jutgla also ineligible, so Aubameyang may have to be content with being lost.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is leaving Arsenal having scored 92 goals in 163 appearances for the club, with each goal he scored under the terms of his £350k-a-week contract reportedly costing the Gunners £1.2m.

Barcelona’s quest for Europa League glory begins with the first leg of their round of 16 ties against Napoli on February 17.
