Brazil Women’s National Football Team History

Although today the Brazilian national team is one of the best in the world, not so long ago that women were not even allowed to watch a game. The female game leaked sporadically throughout Brazil with popular traction at the beginning of the 20th century. Magazines such as O Impartial and Jornal Dos Sports covered the female game praising their achievements in the local Cup competitions. However, the traditional order of the future as “purely masculine” entered into the dispute in the fall of the games. Until, in the mid-1940s, when Brazil became a dictatorship later that prohibits the female game.

Futebol Feminino

Brazil was the first country in Latin America to legally recognize the feminine Fenebol. As the first nation to popularize the female game, it was difficult to sell for many Brazilians trapped with traditional gender roles. Until the national team began to participate on the international stage. After the football debut of the Women’s Association at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, the women’s game shot in admiration. To capitalize on the beginning of the teams and fourth place, the state of São Paulo created Paulistana. The Paulista was a national competition aimed at attracting young and next players for the national team. However, Paulistana’s methodology was linked to the feminization of soccer in the process.

2017 controversy

In 2017, the Brazilian football confederation’s decision to fire the chief coach Emily Lima caused protests among team players. The dispute became an argument for greater salaries and more respect and recognition for the country’s women’s football players. As a result, players like Cristiane, Rosana, and Francielle announced their retirement from international football, hoping that this decision can make a difference in the coming years
