Callum Elder Football Career

Here, we take a closer look at his Football career so far.

Callum Elder Club Career

The city of Leicester

Elder, a left back, was born in Sydney, Australia, and began his youth career with Manly United. When he was 16, he moved to England to begin a scholarship in the academy at Leicester City. Elder is currently in his third season with the club.

Following the conclusion of the 2012–2013 season, when his scholarship was finished, he was offered his first contract in the professional ranks. After transitioning to the Foxes’ U21 team, he signed a new two-year deal at the end of the 2014–15 season and then a further extension a year later, which will keep him at the King Power Stadium until June 2019.

The Mansfield Town Football Club (loan)

Elder was allowed to play for Mansfield Town, a team in League Two, on loan beginning on January 8, 2015. Two days later, he made his first appearance in a professional game, which was an away loss to Burton Albion by 2–1.

As a result of him becoming a regular starter, his loan was extended to the end of the 2014–15 campaign. Elder played with the Stags during the season and made 21 appearances before returning to Leicester.

Peterborough United Football Club (loan)

Elder made his loan move to League One club Peterborough United on August 29, 2015, initially for one month; however, the deal was extended until January 2016. He played 21 times and scored his first goal in the senior team on October 24, 2015, when Doncaster Rovers were defeated by 4-0.

This was the first goal of his career. Elder’s loan was cut short early since he had a foot injury while playing Blackpool on December 19th, which resulted in the match being postponed.

Brentford (loan)

Elder made his loan move to Championship side Brentford on July 30, 2016, and will remain there for the entirety of the 2016–17 season.

Before sustaining a knee injury in a 2–0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on September 10, 2016, he played every minute of every league match during the season’s first month. During that time, he was ever-present for his team.

Because a thigh injury slowed Elder’s recovery, he returned to the King Power Stadium in the middle of December 2016 to receive therapy. On January 16, 2017, he resumed training with Brentford; however, he did not play for the club before Leicester City invited him back two weeks later.

Barnsley (loan)

Elder joined Barnsley on loan on the 31st of January, 2017, and will remain there until the end of the 2016–17 Championship season.

The Wigan Athletic Club (loan)

Elder joined Wigan Athletic on loan for the remainder of the 2017–18 season on July 31.

On August 5, he made his debut with Milton Keynes Dons, but he was dismissed after playing for only 44 minutes. The final score was 1-0 in favour of Wigan. On January 17, 2018, he scored his first goal for Wigan, which helped them win the FA Cup match against Bournemouth, a team from the Premier League.

Ipswich Town (loan)

Elder was loaned to Ipswich Town on January 2, 2019, so he could play for them in the remaining games of the 2018–19 Championship season.

City of Hull

Elder signed the Championship side Hull City on the 8th of August 2019, signing a three-year contract after making a move for an unknown amount. As a result of the move, he got back in touch with Grant McCann, his manager from Peterborough United. Elder made his first appearance for the club on September 14, 2019, in a 2–2 home draw with Wigan Athletic. On April 5, 2021, during Hull’s match against Northampton Town, which they won 3–0, he scored his first goal for the club. Hull City Football Club exercised their option to extend his current contract by one year on May 18th, 2022.

Callum Elder International career

The elder might have played for any of the four national teams of Australia, Scotland, Ireland, or England at the international level. Australia U20 called Elder in October 2013 for the 2014 AFC U19 Championship qualifying matches.

On October 5, 2013, he made his only debut for the team, which resulted in a 3–0 victory over Chinese Taipei. He did not make the team that would compete in the event’s championship round.

Elder received a call-up to the Australia squad in August 2021, just in time for the country’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against China and Vietnam. On September 2, 2021, he made his professional debut in a match at home against China, which the team won 3–0. In the 79th minute, he replaced Aziz Behich with another player.
