Carlton Morris Football Career

Here, we take a closer look at his Football career so far.

Carlton Morris Club Career

The beginnings and initial steps forward

Morris, born in Cambridge, began his professional career in the youth program at Norwich City when he was 11 years old. In the summer of 2012, he was selected to become a scholar at the academy, and in May 2013, he led Norwich to victory in the FA Youth Cup.

He committed to the company by signing a professional contract in December 2013, valid through the summer of 2016.

2014–15

Morris joined Oxford United on loan on August 4, 2014, and will remain there until January 1, 2015. On August 9, 2014, he made his debut for the club, starting in a League Two match against Burton Albion that ended in a loss of 1-0.

On his subsequent appearance, which took place on August 12, 2014, he started once more and scored the first goal of his career for Oxford, which came in a 1-0 victory over Bristol City in the first round of the League Cup. On October 23, 2014, Norwich recalled him after having appeared in 10 games for them.

Morris moved to a different League Two club, York City, on loan on November 27, 2014, and remained there until January 4, 2015. Two days later, on Sunday, he made his professional debut by replacing Wes Fletcher in the 77th minute of York’s 1–1 away draw with Plymouth Argyle. After making eight appearances for York, his loan was returned to Norwich on February 9, 2015, after having been extended for an additional month in January 2015.

2015–16

Shortly after extending his contract with Norwich until 2017, Morris signed a loan with Hamilton Academical on July 15, 2015, and played for the club for six months. On August 1, he played in his first game in the Scottish Premiership, which was a draw between Hamilton and Partick Thistle at home.

Morris scored his first goal for the club in a match where Hamilton won 4–0 at home against Dundee United on the 18th of August, 2015. On January 2, 2016, he signed a contract extension that will keep him at Hamilton through the conclusion of the 2015–16 season.

After spending the previous ten months on loan at Hamilton, where he participated in 33 matches and scored eight goals, Morris returned to Norwich in May of 2016.

2016–17

Morris joined Championship team Rotherham United on loan on January 31, 2017, and will remain there until the conclusion of the 2016–17 season. Before that, he played for Norwich under-23s in the EFL Trophy.

Due to an injury, he could not start playing for Rotherham until the middle of March. However, he did sign a contract with Norwich that will keep him there until 2020 earlier in the month. On March 18, 2017, he made his debut for Rotherham as a substitute during the team’s 5–1 loss on the road against Queens Park Rangers.

2017–18

Morris became Shrewsbury Town’s ninth summer signing when he joined them on a season-long loan on July 11, 2017, becoming the club’s ninth summer signing overall. On August 19, he helped the team to a 3–2 victory over Rochdale at New Meadow by scoring his first goal for the organization.

During Shrewsbury Town’s match against Rotherham United in the play-off final for League One, Morris suffered a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

2018–19

Due to his ACL injury, Morris was out for the majority of the season and only played a few games for Norwich City’s Under-23 team.

2019–20

Morris extended his contract with Norwich to 2021 in May 2019, and at the same time, he was loaned out to League One club Rotherham United, for whom he had previously played in the 2016–17 season.

After Morris scored three goals for them in the league during the first half of the season, they decided to bring the loan to an early end. After that, on January 7, 2020, Morris made a loan commitment to the Milton Keynes Dons for the remainder of the current season.

2020–21

Morris had a productive loan stint with the Milton Keynes Dons previously; therefore, he decided to return there for the remainder of the 2020–21 season. Morris was recalled by Norwich City on January 6, 2021, after playing eighteen games for the Dons and scoring three goals in league play.

Later the same day, Morris agreed to terms with Barnsley to see him play for the Championship club for the next two and a half years at an undisclosed salary. On February 14, 2021, he scored his first goal for Barnsley in a game they won by 2-0 against Brentford.
