Norwich City FC originally played at Newmarket Road before moving to The Nest. When The Nest was deemed unsuitable for the size of the crowds it attracted, the Carrow Road ground, named for the road it stands on, was purpose-built by Norwich in just 82 days and opened on 31 August 1935.

The stadium has been modified and upgraded several times during its history, notably after a fire destroyed the old City Stand in 1984. Having once accommodated standing fans, the ground has had seating for all since 1992.

The current capacity of the land is 27,359. The stadium’s record attendance since it was converted to an all-seater arena is 27,137, set during a Premier League match against Newcastle United on 2 April 2016. On days when fans could stand in the stands, Carrow Road saw a crowd of 43,984 when it hosted Leicester City for an FA Cup game in 1963.
