About Chile National Football Team

The Chile national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de Chile) represents Chile in international men’s football competitions and is controlled by the Chilean Football Federation, which was established in 1895. The team is commonly known as La Red (“The Red One”). Chile has appeared in nine World Cup tournaments and hosted the 1962 FIFA World Cup where it finished in third place, the highest placing the country has ever achieved in the World Cup.

Chile won their first Copa América title on home soil at the 2015 Copa América, defeating Argentina in the final. He successfully defended his title in another final against Argentina and won on penalties at the Copa América Centenario the following year in the United States.

Chile National Football Team History

In the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup held in Russia, for which they had qualified by winning the Copa América, Chile won their first group game against Cameroon with a score of 2-0. In their second game against Germany, Chile tied after a tough game and both teams scored 1. In their last group game against Australia, Chile drew again but qualified for the knockout stage by virtue of having more points than Australia. although it has fewer points than Germany.

In the semi-finals, after a tense and exciting game, Chile prevailed, beating Portugal on penalties, 3-0, and thus qualified for the final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. In their first final in a tournament sanctioned by FIFA, Chile faced Germany and lost 1-0.

On 10 October 2017, after losing 3-0 to Brazil, Chile failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, bringing about the end of what was perceived as their “golden generation”. They ended up being the highest-ranked team not to qualify in ninth place, placing sixth in the round-robin after losing on overall goal difference to Peru, with the same number of points.

Chile National Football Team Home Stadium

The Chilean national team plays its qualifying matches at the Julio Martínez Prádanos National Stadium located in Santiago de Chile and in the commune of Ñuñoa. Construction of the stadium began in February 1937, and it opened on December 3, 1938.

The current official registered capacity is 49,000 but has exceeded 75,000 on many occasions when the game is in high demand.

Chile National Football Team Kit

The team’s kit consists of a red shirt, blue shorts, and white socks. The away jersey features a white jersey, white shorts, and blue socks. The color scheme of red, white, and blue that was featured in the 1947 South American Championship, the precursor to the Copa América, has been maintained ever since. In 2016, red shorts were introduced as an option for the first time.
