Gabriel Barbosa Club Career

Early career

Born in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Gabriel joined the Santos FC youth team in 2004, at the age of 8; his prolific goalscoring with the club’s youth teams led to him earning the nickname Gabigol. On September 25, 2012, he signed a professional contract, with a termination clause of 50 million euros, and made his debut with the first team on January 17 of the following year, in a friendly match against Grêmio Barueri.

Santos

On May 26, 2013, Gabriel made his league debut, aged just 16, in a 0-0 draw against Flamengo. He scored his first professional goal on August 22, scoring the only goal of the game in a home win against Grêmio, for the year’s Copa do Brasil.
