In the round of 16, Senegal faces Cape Verde, who finished third in Group A. For this match, Aliou does not condemn any Cissé Covid-19 problems, however, Cheikhou Kouyaté has been suspended. The Lions started the match from the first minute with a shot by Sadio Mané to the post. He finds himself at a numerical advantage by sending off Patrick Andrew in the 21st minute after a video assistant referee intervened. However, despite his dominance, he failed to appear dangerous and the first half ended without a single shot on goal. Early in the second half, Wozniak and Mane collided head-on. After a new look at VAR, the Cape Verdean referee decides to expel the goalkeeper. Mane started the goal a few minutes later after a corner. He has been replaced by Bamba Dyeing who will score the last goal in added time.
Senegal will face Equatorial Guinea in the quarterfinals, which beat Mali on penalties in the round of 16. At the start of the second half, referee Victor-Gomez fined Aquatguin for the handball of Kalido Coulibaly before reversing his call following the intervention of a video assistant referee. First a confrontation between Cheikhou Kouyaté and Hervé Koffi that would force the Burkinabe goalkeeper to get injured, then the hand of Edmond-Tapsoba. Minutes before Idrissa Joya doubled the lead, the Lions finally opened the scoring with Abdo Diallo. Sadio Mané scored the last goal at the end of the game when Blati Touré reduced the score.
In the final, Senegal will face Egypt, which defeated host Cameroon in the semi-finals. Salio-Cess receives a penalty early in the match, but Sadio Mane’s shot is deflected by Muhammad-Abu-Gabal.
