Mbabu was raised by a French father and a Congolese mother in Chêne-Bougeries, Switzerland. He has one brother, and two sisters, one of them is his step-sister.

Club Career

Servette

Kevin Mbabu began his professional career at Servette and worked his way up through the youth team. He was born in Chêne-Bougeries, Switzerland.

He was promoted to the first team at the beginning of the 2012–2013 campaign and played in several games for the group.

He made his professional debut for Servette against Lausanne-Sport in a Swiss Super League game in the 66th minute on September 26, 2012, however, that was his only appearance for the team.

Newcastle United

Kevin Mbabu made his home debut for the development squad on April 1, 2013, in a 2-1 victory over Stoke City Development Squad, during the second half of the 2012–13 campaign.

He rapidly made an impression on the team during the second part of the 2012–13 season and made seven appearances for the development team.

Mbabu participated in the development squad in 2013–14 despite sustaining injuries during the course of the season.

Wolfsburg

Kevin Mbabu and VfL Wolfsburg agreed to a four-year contract on April 25, 2019, and the player will begin playing for the team in July of the following year.

Mbabu chose to wear the No. 19 jersey for Wolfsburg in memory of Junior Malanda, who passed away on January 10, 2015, as a result of a car accident in northern Germany.

Fulham

On 27 July 2022, Mbabu joined newly promoted Premier League club Fulham for an undisclosed fee, on a 3-year deal, with the option to extend for a further 12 months.

International career

Kevin Mbabu qualified to play for France, DR Congo, and Switzerland due to his mixed ancestry. From the under-16 to the under-21 side, he represented Switzerland in youth international matches. Mbabu was selected for the Switzerland preliminary team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in May 2018.

Kevin Mbabu was, however, removed from the team after Switzerland’s initial squad was reduced to 26. On September 8, 2018, he made his professional debut in the starting lineup against Iceland in the UEFA Nations League for the 2018–19 season. He participated in the 2019 UEFA Nations League Finals in May, where his team took fourth place.
