Club Career
Atletico Junior
Atletico Junior hosted an open trial in 2014 and Luis Díaz was impressed enough to be a part of the youth team. Due to his Wayuu heritage, he was part of Colombia’s 22-man team for the Copa Americana de Pueblos Indigenas 2015. After impressing at the tournament, he was assigned immediately to the farm team Barranquilla by Atletico Junior’s senior team in 2016. Barranquilla gave Diaz a diet plan to help him gain 10 kilograms due to his slim build. Diaz made his senior debut as a substitute on 26 April 2016 in a Categoria Primera A home loss to Deportivo Pereira. His first senior goal was on 14 May when he scored the winner of a home defeat by Cucuta Deportivo 2-1.
After making his Copa Colombia team debut on the 6th of June 2017, Luis Díaz was promoted to Junior’s main squad. On 27 August, he replaced Matias Mier at Once Caldas in a 3-2 defeat. His first goal was scored on 20 September, in a Copa Sudamericana win against Cerro Porteno.

Luis Díaz signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese club FC Porto. The club bought 80% of his economic rights in exchange for a EUR7 million fee. Before signing for Liverpool, Luis Díaz was also interested in Tottenham Hotspur. After learning about Tottenham’s offer, Liverpool made a change in their summer plans and signed Diaz to a permanent contract. Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, was impressed.
