Lusail Iconic Stadium or Lusail Stadium (Arabic: ملعب لوسيل الدولي) is a football stadium in Lusail, Qatar. The stadium will host the final match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It is owned by the Qatar Football Association. It is located about 23 km north of Doha.

Lusail Iconic Stadium is one of them the largest stadium in Qatar. The stadium will be one of the dedicated venues for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The FIFA federation has announced the schedule for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This season, Qatar will host the biggest sporting event in football.

The tournament will start on November 20, 2022, while the final will be played on December 18, 2022, coinciding with Qatar’s National Day. Even then it will be hot with temperatures around the 30C mark.

Lusail Iconic Stadium History

The procurement process for the stadium conversion started in 2014. The stadium was built as a joint venture by HBK Contracting (HBK) and China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC). The MEP works have been carried out by HBK Engineering.

The stadium was designed by UK firm Foster + Partners, and Populous, Lusail Stadium will be ready by 2020. Like the other stadiums planned for the 2022 World Cup, Lusail Stadium will be solar-cooled and have a footprint of zero carbon.

Construction began on 11 April 2017. The stadium’s construction was originally scheduled to end in 2020. It was then to host three friendly matches until the 2022 World Cup, but as the completion of the stadium was postponed, it will subsequently host 10 matches. including the final.

After the World Cup, it is expected to be reconfigured into a 40,000-seat stadium. Excess seating will be removed and other parts of the building will be repurposed as a community space with shops, cafes, sports, and educational facilities, and a health clinic.

Like other stadiums built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Lusail Stadium received a five-star rating on August 16, 2022, for its design and construction, from GSAS.

In a September 2021 report, Amnesty International criticized Qatar for failing to investigate the deaths of migrant workers.

In September 2022, Amnesty published the results of a survey of more than 17,000 football fans from 15 countries which showed that 73% supported FIFA in compensating migrant workers in Qatar for human rights violations. FIFA issued a statement after the Amnesty survey citing the improvement that had been made for migrant workers.

Lusail Stadium is the centerpiece of the new Lusail City development on the northern edge of Doha on the Arabian Gulf coast, approximately 20 kilometers from downtown Doha and 9 kilometers from The Pearl.

Lusail City will be a self-contained mixed residential, commercial and retail development that is expected to eventually house 200,000 residents.

The red metro line connects the city of Lusail with the center of Doha and Hamad International Airport. The Lusail QNB station, the last on the line, is located right next to the stadium. A tram system connects the stadium with other parts of Lusail.
