Youth career

Livaja started out at lower-tier Croatian teams GOŠK Kaštel Gomilica and NK Omladinac Vranjic before receiving a call-up from Dinamo Zagreb Academy in the summer of 2008.

However, before signing up for Dinamo, he received a call-up from club Hajduk Split Academy of his hometown. former rivals of Dinamo and moved there. In early 2010, he was promoted to the full Hajduk team.
