Club Career

Early career

Born in Soham, Cambridgeshire, Pope attended the King’s School in nearby Ely. A season ticket holder from Ipswich Town, he began his career in the club’s youth setup at the age of 10 and remained at Ipswich until he was released aged 16. Following his release by Ipswich, he joined the non-league club Bury Town in 2008.

Having challenged and temporarily replaced Marcus Garnham, Pope showed he was capable at that level when he wore the number one shirt for Bury Town in a number of first-team matches after initially making his debut for the team at just 16 years of age. Charlton Athletic

On 24 May 2011, Pope was signed by League One club Charlton Athletic after the scouts spotted him during a 2–1 win over Billericay Town. He was later invited to a trial at Charlton. Burnley

On 19 July 2016, Pope joined the newly promoted Premier League club, Burnley, on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Pope made his Premier League debut on 10 September 2017, replacing the injured Tom Heaton in the first half of a 1–0 home win over Crystal Palace. He made his first Premier League start for him the following week, on 16 September 2017, in a 1–1 away draw against Liverpool.
