Masour Ousmane Dembélé is a French professional footballer who plays as a winger for La Liga club Barcelona and the France national team.

Born in Vernon, Dembélé started his career at Rennes before signing for Dortmund in 2016. He won the DFB-Pokal with Borussen in the 2016-17 season and scored a goal in the final. A year later, he transferred to Barcelona for an initial fee of €105 million, at the time becoming the second most expensive footballer along with compatriot Paul Pogba. Dembélé made his senior debut with the Rennes subsidiary in the Championnat de France Amateur on 6 September 2014, coming on as a substitute in the 78th minute for Zana Allée. He effectively set up Alseny Kourouma for the second goal of a 2-0 home victory over the reserves of Breton rivals Guingamp. On 9 November he scored the first goal of his career, again coming off the bench in a match at the Stade de la Piverdière, this time against Laval’s reserve team. He had 13 goals in 18 games in his first season, including a hat-trick on 16 May 2015 in a 6-1 win over Hérouville.

On 6 November 2015, Dembélé made his professional debut for Rennes’ first team in Ligue 1 against Angers, coming on as a substitute for Kamil Grosicki for the last five minutes of the match. On 22 November, he scored his first Ligue 1 goal for the first team against Bordeaux, opening a 2–2 draw at Roazhon Park. On 9 January 2016, Dembélé once again found the net for Les Rouges et Noirs as they came from behind from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 against regional rivals Lorient at home. On 6 March, he scored his first Ligue 1 hat-trick in a 4–1 victory over Nantes in the Derby Breton.

On May 12, 2016, Dembélé signed a five-year contract with German club Borussia Dortmund, starting on July 1. On August 14, he made his debut in a 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup. On 25 August 2017, La Liga club Barcelona announced that they had reached an agreement to sign Dembélé for €105 million plus an additional €40 million. On August 28, he underwent a medical examination and signed a five-year contract, with his termination clause set at 400 million euros. Barcelona had just sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for €222m, so the deal meant Dembélé became the second most expensive player (in euros) along with Paul Pogba. Rennes received €20 million from Borussia Dortmund as a result of the sale, with Évreux 27 also receiving part of the fee. They gave him the number 11 shirt previously worn by Neymar.

Dembélé made his debut on 9 September as a 68th-minute substitute for Gerard Deulofeu in the Barcelona Derbi’s 5–0 victory over Espanyol at Camp Nou, assisting Luis Suárez’s final goal. In his league debut eight days later at Getafe, he injured his biceps femoris and was out for four months. He was discharged on January 2, 2018, but a couple of weeks later he was injured again against Real Sociedad and was ruled out for up to four weeks.

On November 4, he inspired Barcelona to a 3–2 comeback against Rayo Vallecano, scoring the 2–2 equalizer with a half-volley in the 87th minute. On December 11, he scored a notable solo goal against Tottenham Hotspur beating many defenders and finished with a brilliant left-footed shot past Hugo Lloris. He won the UEFA Champions League Goal of the Week for that goal. Barça coach Ernesto Valverde praised the youngster and said that he “has scored a great goal, within the reach of players with his talent.”

Dembélé injured his left hamstring in the opening game of the 2019-20 La Liga season, a 0-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao, and was expected to miss five weeks. In February 2020, he suffered a severe hamstring tear and, after surgery, he was not expected to return for another six months. This would mean that, despite the season being extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he would miss the rest of the season.

On 28 October 2020, Dembélé scored his first Champions League goal of the season in a 2–0 win over Juventus.
