The same year, Palestine played its first FIFA-recognized match in a 3–1 loss to Lebanon in a friendly.
The team won the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup, thanks to a 1-0 victory over the Philippines in the final. Their victory in the competition qualified them for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, marking their first appearance in the competition.
