Scott Hogan Early Life

Scott Andrew Hogan (born 13 April 1992) is a professional footballer who is a forward for EFL Championship club Birmingham City and the Republic of Ireland national team. Hogan played in the youth system at Rochdale but was released in 2010.

He entered non-league football, playing for Woodley Sports, FC Halifax Town, Mossley, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Ashton United, and Hyde before returning to Rochdale. He scored 17 goals in 2013-14, leading Brentford to sign him in July 2014 for £750,000. Hogan spent two and a half seasons at Griffin Park, moving to Aston Villa in January 2017.

He struggled to establish himself at Villa Park. He spent time on loan at Sheffield United in 2018-19 and at Stoke City and Birmingham City in 2019-20 before rejoining Birmingham on a permanent contract in September 2020. Born in England, he represents the Republic of Ireland internationally.

Scott Hogan Club Career

Rochdale

Hogan was born in Salford, Greater Manchester. He began his career as a student at Salford College, studying for a BTEC National Diploma in Sport and playing in the college’s Football Academy, the first team, before moving up to the youth academy at League Two club Rochdale in 2009. After just one call-up to the team’s first squad, he was released at the end of the 2009–10 season.

Woodley sports

Hogan switched to non-league football to join Northern Premier League First Division club Woodley Sports during the 2010 off-season. He had a prolific spell at the club, scoring 21 goals in 27 league games. He left the club in November 2010 but returned on loan for another month.

FC Halifax City

Hogan signed with the club F.C. of the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League. Halifax Town in November 2010 and linked up with his brother Liam. He made his debut in a West Riding County Cup second-round match against Barnoldswick Town on 15 December and scored the second goal in a 5–0 win.

On 10 January 2011, Hogan featured in a 3–0 Northern Premier League Challenge Cup third-round victory over Bradford Park Avenue. Still, his inclusion in the squad led to Halifax’s expulsion from the competition, as they were cup-tied after appearing for Woodley Sports in the competition earlier in the season.

Hogan slowly broke into the league side. The Shaymen finished the 2010–11 season as champions of the Northern Premier League Premier Division, promoting the club to the Conference North for the 2011–12 season.

Stocksbridge Park Steels

Hogan signed for Northern Premier League Premier Division club Stocksbridge Park Steels in December 2011. He quickly teamed up with Jack Muldoon and regularly appeared for the club. Hogan left the Steels in October 2012 after having trouble travelling to Stocksbridge from his home in Warrington. He made 16 appearances and scored seven goals during the first months of the 2012-13 season.

Ashton United

In October 2012, Hogan signed for Premier Division club Ashton United of the Northern Premier League. He scored one goal in eight league games for the club before leaving in March 2013.

hyde

On 9 March 2013, Hogan signed a non-contract deal with Conference Premier Struggles Hyde and debuted that day as a second-half substitute for Louis Almond in a 3–0 loss to Gateshead. He left Hyde at the end of the 2012-13 season, having scored three goals in 11 Conference appearances.

Return to Rochdale

On May 9, 2013, Hogan returned to Rochdale and signed a two-year deal. He made his professional debut on 3 August, scoring the opener in a 3–0 home win against Hartlepool United with a goal named Sky Sports News’ goal of the day.

He started the season in fine form and scored 10 goals in his first 20 league games. Four goals in five games earned Hogan the League Two Player of the Month award for February, and he celebrated by scoring his second hat-trick in three weeks against Oxford United on 1 March.

Brentford

On 21 July 2014, Hogan signed a three-year contract with Championship club Brentford for approximately £750,000. After missing part of the 2014–15 pre-season with an ankle injury, he debuted for the Bees on 26 August as a second-half substitute for Nick Proschwitz in a 1–0 loss to club rivals Fulham.
