Birmingham City Home Stadium

In 2004, a proposal was made to build a “sports village” comprising a 55,000-capacity Birmingham City Stadium, other sports, and entertainment facilities, and a super casino, to be jointly funded by Birmingham City Council, the Birmingham City FC (through the proceeds from the sale of St Andrew’s) and the Las Vegas Sands casino group.

The viability of the plan depended on the government issuing a license for a super casino and Birmingham being chosen as the venue, but this did not happen. The club has planning permission to redevelop the main stand, but the club and council continued to seek alternative sources of funding for the Birmingham City Stadium project.

St Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium

In 2013, the Blues Supporters’ Trust’s application to list St Andrew’s as an Asset of Community Value (ACV): a building or other land whose primary use “advances the social welfare or social interests of the local community” and where it is really believed that it could in the future. – under the Localism Act 2011 was passed by Birmingham City Council.

This requires any proposed sale to be notified to Council and places a six-month moratorium on that sale to allow the Trust and other community groups to submit their own offer. In 2018 the club’s owners agreed on a three-year sponsorship deal under which the name became St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium.
