The Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore is a multi-use stadium in Reggio Emilia, Italy. It is currently the home of the U.S. Sassuolo from Serie A and AC Reggiana from Serie C.
The stadium seats 21,525 and was built in 1995, replacing Stadio Mirabello. It received the name of Stadio Città del Tricolore on March 11, 2012, since it was previously called Stadio Giglio. On July 8, 2013, the stadium received its current name for ownership reasons (acquired by Mapei from the Reggio Emilia commune).
On November 20, 2020, it was announced that the stadium would host the 2020 Italian Super Cup between Juventus and Napoli, while on April 2, 2021, it was announced that the stadium would host the 2021 Coppa Italia Final between Atalanta and Juventus.

Mapei Stadium History
The need for a new stadium in Reggio Emilia began when Reggiana won promotion to Serie A in 1993: the club launched multi-year season tickets in order to raise money to build a new stadium of its own. The stadium was inaugurated in 1995 with a sold-out match between Reggiana and Juventus. Following the dissolution and reconstitution of Reggiana in 2005, the club lost ownership of the stadium, which was ceded to the Court of Reggio Emilia.
The reconstituted Reggiana continued to play in the stadium and had its headquarters and its historical museum located in the Main Grandstand; in the same years the “I Petali” shopping center was built behind the Away End and East Stand, with a good offer of shops, cinemas, gyms and restaurants. Stadio Giglio was renamed by the Municipality “Città del Tricolore”, in reference to the creation of the Italian Tricolor in Reggio Emilia in 1797.
The stadium is unique in that there is a water-filled moat built between the pitch and the stands to try and prevent encroachments on the pitch. Because the water is supplied from a nearby river, there have even been cases where bored hobbyists have been seen successfully fishing in it.
In 2013, the Court held a public auction for the property of the stadium, which was won by the ceramic industry MAPEI, owned by the former president of Confindustria, Giorgio Squinzi, which also owned Sassuolo Calcio in the USA, promoted to Serie A to end of 2012. –13 season. The stadium was renamed “MAPEI Stadium” for sponsorship reasons.
The move from Sassuolo and the acquisition of MAPEI and the subsequent renaming of the stadium has caused much outrage among Reggiana supporters. Currently, it is mainly used for football matches and is the stadium of Reggiana. It also hosts larger rugby matches for the United Rugby Championship team Zebre of Parma.
The Carpi football club used the field for home games during the 2011-12 season. In the 2013-14 season, the promoted team from Serie A, Sassuolo, played on the field. They signed a two-year lease with Reggiana, who manages the place.
The agreement reached with Reggiana also included infrastructure improvements, including new benches and changing rooms, along with the development of new commercial and marketing policies, which were aimed at taking advantage of the commercial opportunities presented by the club’s Serie A promotion. Consequently, the stadium was renamed Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore.
The stadium hosted the 2016 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final.
